One of the best things about in-home newborn sessions?
You don’t have to pack a diaper bag, time a feeding, or stress about getting out the door on time. Diaper blowout right before the session? This is probably one of the few times a blowout won't make a dent in your day's schedule.
But what if you also want photos of your baby in a studio set up, in addition to photos in the nursery, family room, and master bedroom? You know, photos of the baby swaddled up like a little egg with a solid colored background, a furry rug, and soft lighting.
Good News: I can bring the studio to you.
Lifestyle Meets Studio — At Home
My newborn sessions are designed to run on your family's schedule, all while in the comfort of your own home. My general approach is to incorporate a mix of traditional portraits (i.e. look at the camera and smile) and candid imagery, with the rooms of your choosing as the backdrop. Is your master bedroom looking like a war zone? All good. We'll stay within the confines of your Pinterest-worthy nursery and family room.
My portable studio set up is small-space friendly and will fit in whichever room you designate during our time together. I'll create a peaceful mini studio environment with minimal disruption to your day.
Here's what my studio set up includes:
- Compact lighting equipment to create soft, natural-looking light;
- A curated selection of solid colored swaddles;
- a rustic wooden crate (to put baby on top of if it fits the vibe);
- a portable backdrop stand with a seamless, solid colored backdrop (color of your choice); and
- a furry rug at the base of the set up.
Don't want to use my swaddles or wooden crate? No problem. We can absolutely use your swaddles. Feel free to add in your favorite children's book, a family heirloom, or that knitted bear bonnet your mother-in-law made for the baby. Or we can go for a clean, minimalist look. You tell me your aesthetic preferences, and I'll customize the set up accordingly.
Do I Have To Include the Studio Setup?
Not at all. Many of my clients prefer to stick to more lifestyle imagery and only want their home as the backdrop for their photos. But for families who want both, the studio setup gives us that polished portrait feel—without ever leaving home.

When you book your in-home newborn session, you’ll receive a questionnaire that covers all your preferences—including whether you’d like the mini studio setup. If you’re unsure, we can talk it out and even make a last minute call if you need time to think on it. I’m here to make this experience as stress-free and special as possible so you can focus on soaking in these first few weeks with your baby.
